Plug Your Ears and Listen

So let no one boast about human leaders.
For all things are yours
Whether . . . the world or life or death
Or the present or the future –
All belong to you
And you belong to Christ
And Christ belongs to God.
1 Corinthians 3:21-23

It is astounding to think that “all things” are ours in Christ. The reality of exactly what we come into when Christ comes into us is a rarely lived reality. Rather, we become quite absorbed with wondering or believing that we are not worthy of this or that or that somehow our imperfections keep us from ever reaching a state useful enough to be used of by God. More often that not we believe that the power and gifts bestowed on us through the Holy Spirit are for others’, far more capable and ‘holy’ than us, to use.

We are not perfect enough, not holy enough, not educated enough, not in ‘ministry’, we still catch ourselves ‘sinning’ even in the tiniest of things, we are not trustworthy, we are selfish and self-absorbed, in fact, we consider ourselves to be so corrupt and useless, it’s hard to believe we ever understood at one time the depth and reality of Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf, and the forgiveness, reconciliation and peace we now have with God. In fact, we are restored, we are whole, we are empowered with the Holy Spirit – no matter if the ‘flesh’ tells us otherwise.

Plug your ears and listen

Listen to the Word.
Listen to the Holy Spirit.
Listen to Christ in you.
You are wonderfully and fearfully made.
You have been made whole.
You have been restored.
You are loved.
Walk in His truth –

For all things are yours
Whether . . . the world or life or death
Or the present or the future –
All belong to you
And you belong to Christ
And Christ belongs to God.

Amen.

The Lord is coming!
