. . . Kefa answered them
Turn from sin, return to God
And each of you be immersed
On the authority of Yeshua the Messiah
Into forgiveness of your sins
And you will receive the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh!
For the promise is for you
For your children
For those far away – as many as Adonai our God may call! . . .
So those who accepted what he said were immersed
And there were added to the group that day about three thousand people.
They continued faithfully in the teaching of the emissaries
In breaking bread
And in the prayers.
Everyone was filled with awe
And many miracles and signs took place through the emissaries.
All those trusting in Yeshua stayed together
And had everything in common;
In fact, they sold their property and possessions
And distributed the proceeds to all who were in need.
Continuing faithfully and with singleness of purpose
To meet in the Temple courts daily
And breaking bread in their several homes
They shared their food in joy and simplicity of heart
Praising God and having the respect of all the people.
And day after day the Lord kept adding to them those who were being saved.
-Acts 2:38-39, 41-47 (The Complete Jewish Bible, trans. David H. Stern)
A follower of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach is connected to one of the largest communities on Earth. You could call this community a community of Pilgrims. Their destination is to be in the very presence of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the unknown country. While they are passing through this country they are to look to one and other for help, support, encouragement, edification, leadership through the desert places and the mountain passes. Fellowship with like-hearted people is necessary for everyone’s growth. Fellowship is a form of discipleship and all the followers of Yeshua need to be discipled.
Of course, today, where to fellowship is a question of concern for many followers of Yeshua. It may take some time to find the place you are to fill, and to find fulfillment in serving the body of Yeshua. However, don’t give up praying for direction. Don’t give up visiting the various parts of the body. There is a place for you to serve and grow. Without fellowship your growth will be stunted, and ultimately, the body will suffer without your service.
Seek and you will find, serve and grow.
The Lord is coming!
