Praise the Lord, all you nations
Extol him, all you peoples.
For great is His steadfast love toward us
The faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
-Psalm 117 (JST)
This is the shortest psalm in the Psalter, and all commentaries note that this psalm refers to all other peoples being called on to praise God for His steadfast love and faithfulness in saving Israel from its adversaries.
How often has it seemed impossible for Israel to survive her enemies, especially to those who lived in the century that witnessed the near-complete genocide of the Jews in WWII, and the 1967 war in Israel, when three of the largest and strongest mid-East armies, backed by eight other smaller mid-East countries sought to destroy Israel:
The Zionist barrack in Palestine is about to collapse and be destroyed. Every one of the hundred million Arabs has been living for the past nineteen years on one hope – to live to see the day Israel is liquidated…There is no life, no peace nor hope for the gangs of Zionism to remain in the occupied land.
As of today, there no longer exists an international emergency force to protect Israel….The sole method we shall apply against Israel is a total war which will result in the extermination of Zionist existence. – Cairo Radio’s Voice of the Arabs broadcast, May 18, 1967.
There is no doubt that a second Goliath was brought down because of God’s faithfulness to protect His people, Israel. It is the impossibility of Israel being saved from so vast an enemy which points to God’s divine intervention. It is the impossible becoming possible in God’s hands which should lead us to praise and extol His steadfast love and faithfulness.
When you can believe the impossible is possible, then is God close to you.
The Lord is coming!
