Recognition

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip,
Even after I have been among you such a long time?
Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.
-John 14:9

Recognition technology is at the forefront of promising us a safer and more secure world.  But while such promising technology will be able to identify the physical features of a person it will not be able to look into the heart to see who is its master.  Philip recognised Yeshua as the promised Messiah but he did not realize that he was also seeing the Father as well.  Yeshua reminded Philip that the reality of who He was, was at the very least evidenced by the miracles done throughout His ministry – and, as everyone knew, those miracles could have only been done by God, the Father.  The Father was in Yeshua and Yeshua was in the Father.

God had promised to send the ‘Anointed One’[1] to do His will.  The ‘Anointed One’ didn’t come to do His own will.  His whole purpose was to fulfill God’s will.  He had no personal agenda outside of fulfilling God’s will.  Yeshua could say He and the Father were One because His existence did not live outside the fulfilling of God’s promise – that is, if He had not been sent into the world as the ‘Anointed One’, He would not have been born at all.

When you say you believe Yeshua is the ‘Anointed One’, and when you ask for anything in His name, you are Abraham’s children – you have believed God has done what He said He would do; He kept His promise and we are redeemed.

Trust in God
Trust also in me
In my Father’s house
Are many rooms
If it were not so
I would have told you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you
I will come back
And take you to be with me
That you also may be where I am.
-John 14:1b-3
