Picture of Evil

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood
But against the rulers
Against the authorities
Against the powers of this dark world
And against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
-Ephesians 6:12

The world has a perception of evil but the reality is far more menacing.  While it may be difficult to envision exactly how deadly it is, we have been given clear instructions in how to deal with it:

Therefore put on the full armor of God
So that when the day of evil comes
You may be able to stand your ground
And after you have done everything
To stand.
Stand firm then
With the belt of truth buckled around your waist
With the breastplate of righteousness in place
And with your feet fitted
With the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this
Take up the shield of faith
With which you can extinguish
All the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation
And the sword of the Spirit
Which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
With all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind
Be alert
And always keep on praying for all the saints.
-Ephesians 6:13-18

The picture of evil and its rapacious nature becomes more apparent when we look at how we are told to deal with it – we are to cover ourselves from head-to-toe with the protection provided by God through Yeshua Ha’Mashiach.  Be sure that we will need all the protection we can get in that ‘day of evil’ but in the meantime don’t let your ‘armor’ rust waiting for such a day.
You are in training now ‘against the powers of this dark world’ and ‘against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms’; you are to ‘pray in the Spirit’ now; the saints need your prayers now.  The Lord may tarry, but you weren’t instructed to live the ‘life of Riley’ until He comes.  Turn, exercise discipline, check out your armor and put it on – we are at war.
The Lord is coming!
