Destitution Solution

Come, all you who are thirsty
Come to the waters
And you who have no money
Come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread
And your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me
And eat what is good
And your soul will delight
In the riches of fare.
Give ear and come to me
Hear me, that your soul may live.
-Isaiah 55:1-3

Have you ever been so poor that your food for the day consisted of a packet of ketchup and a cup of hot water, which you turned into tomato soup? Have you ever been so poor that the only good thought in your head for the day was eventually it would be night again, so you could go back to sleep and not think about how ‘nothing’ you are? Have you ever been so poor that when someone has asked you for spare change, you have asked if they could spare you any change? The face of poverty has many guises but the one common denominator among them is destitution. God knows the needs of our body, heart, soul and mind. He knows that we will always feel destitute without Him in our lives, no matter how we try to fill it up with everything else but Him.

Carrying on in the same chapter of Isaiah, it is written:

As the heavens are higher
Than the earth
So are my ways
Higher than your ways
And my thoughts
Than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow
Come down from heaven
And do not return to it
Without watering the earth
And making it bud and flourish
So that it yields seed for the sower
And bread for the eater
So is my word
That goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty
But will accomplish what I desire
And achieve the purpose
For which I sent it.
You will go out in joy
And be led forth in peace . . . .
-Isaiah 55 9-12a

Every single thing you need to sustain your life, every single beingness that you desire in yourself is freely available to you, at no cost, from God. As for personal economic crisis needing financial aid, while God has made it plain that it is a waste to spend your money or your labour on anything other than sustenance (how else can we become ‘hilarious’ givers), He is not beyond giving financial aid.

This is not ‘prosperity’ doctrine. This is what God says of Himself – everything is in His hands and freely available to those who ask. But ask you must – and this is where many people fall short – they fail to ask God for help. To ask someone for help is a place of humility. You are saying that you do not have the means to help yourself. However, according to the world’s standard, you should be ashamed, as you should be self-sufficient and self-sustaining in all things. God says otherwise! He says you are to humble yourselves and ask Him for all things – nothing is too small or too big. His ways are not our ways; His thoughts are not our thoughts. Those who humble themselves before God and ask that their needs be met, shall “go out in joy and be led forth in peace”. You shall seek and He shall answer. Turn, humble yourself and ask.

Seek the Lord
While he may be found
Call on him
While he is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way
And the evil man his thoughts.
Let him turn to the Lord
And he will have mercy on him
And to our God
For he will freely pardon.
-Isaiah 55:6-7

The Lord is coming!

About Hodiyah

Do not urge me to leave you, to turn back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
